A night of Celtic celebrations at club’s Player of the Year event

It was a special Celtic night of celebration in Glasgow on Sunday night as the club held its annual Player of the Year Awards. There were various awards handed out to both the women’s and men’s team, many of them voted for by supporters. And there was also a Special Recognition Award for Celtic’s most decorated player of all-time, James Forrest, who has now won 26 major honours in what has been an incredible career in the green and white Hoops. The event was held in the Doubletree By Hilton Glasgow Central and was hosted by Shebahn Aherne and Des Clarke. The Academy Player of the Year is Kyle Ure, with the young midfielder recognised for a very impressive and consistent season with the B Team. And Celtic’s Young Player of the Year, voted for by supporters, is Arne Engels. The 21-year-old Belgian midfielder has enjoyed a great first season in the green and white Hoops, already winning two trophies and scoring 10 goals. Another player who has enjoyed a great first season at Celtic has been Shannon McGregor, who has been an integral part of Elena Sadiku’s squad. And the midfielder’s goal in the UEFA Champions League against FC Gintra was voted the Women’s Goal of the Season. And it was Cameron Carter-Vickers’ stunning strike in the recent 5-1 win over Kilmarnock which fans voted as the Men’s Goal of the Season. The Top Goalscorer of the Season Award for both the men’s and women’s teams, sponsored by adidas, was won respectively by Saoirse Noonan and Daizen Maeda, with both players showing an impressive level of goalscoring throughout the campaign. This award wasn’t the only appearance on stage for Daizen Maeda, who was also voted Players’ Player of the Year by his team-mates. And French defender, Ceyla Barclais, picked up the same award after her tem-mates selected her as their Player of the Year. The event culminated in the final two awards of the night – Player of the Year – with Celtic supporters voting for their favourite. For the women’s team, Shannon McGregor was selected by fans as their Player of the Year, while Daizen Maeda made it a personal treble on the night when he picked up the Player of the Year Award. Thanks go to all the sponsors of the various awards – adidas, Dafabet, Magners, NIXON, Call Robert, PWR Pack, Scottish Centre for Excellence in Dentistry and Michael Philips Joinery And congratulations to all the winners of the individual awards on the night.
