It has been a whirlwind of a week for new Bhoy, Arne Engels, which began by helping FC Augsburg to a 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen on the opening day of the German Bundesliga season, and culminated with a deadline day move to Celtic. And in between that, the midfielder was also called up to the Belgium national squad for their forthcoming Nations League matches. The 20-year-old is proud to have received the international call-up but even more delighted to have joined the Scottish Champions. He has signed a four-year deal with Celtic, and is relishing the challenges ahead, both domestically and in Europe, where he is set to face Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League – the club where he came through their youth academy. Speaking to Celtic TV after sealing the move to Celtic, Arne Engels said: “We have a really good squad at Celtic and with the fans behind us, I hope we will get a lot of trophies and wins together. “It will be amazing to play at Celtic Park. Everyone is really close to the pitch so I think it will be really, really loud, and from what I’ve heard of it, it will be really special. I hope to play before the fans as soon as possible.”That chance could come as early as this Sunday when Brendan Rodgers’ side play host to Rangers in the first Glasgow derby of the season. The Belgian midfielder has already spoken with his new manager and he’s ready for the derby action should he be called upon. “I hope so,” he said. “It’s the choice of the manager so I will see about that, but I’m always ready, so we will see. “The trust that the club and the manager is giving me is a lot and it’s nice to experience. It’s also a bonus point actually, so it’s always nice to hear this from such a really good manager. “Celtic has a style that suits me really well so that’s also one of the reasons that I wanted to join this really big club. “It will be amazing to create a lot of chances and to get a lot of possession in games. It’s a new experience so it will be really nice.”
