Celtic FC Foundation is proud to announce its support for the SPFL, SWPL, and SPFL Trust’s latest ‘UNITED: Football in the Community’ campaign. The nationwide initiative celebrates the vital work of football clubs and their associated community trusts across the Scottish game. To mark the launch of the campaign, Celtic FC Foundation, the charitable arm of Celtic FC, were delighted to host a very special surprise at Celtic Park for one of our long-standing participants. Ability Counts, one of the Foundation’s flagship projects was launched 15 years ago and is designed to support children and people living with a range of both physical and learning disabilities. The project uses the power of football to provide a sense of belonging, improve physical health, and develop social skills in a safe and inclusive environment. For many of our participants, these weekly sessions are more than just sport, they are a vital lifeline for social connection and personal growth. One such participant is Jamie, a dedicated and much-loved member of the Ability Counts family. Jamie has shown incredible commitment to the project over the past decade, embodying the spirit of the Foundation through his enthusiasm and teamwork. To reward his hard work, Jamie was invited to a “behind-the-scenes” tour of Paradise. However, unknown to him, there was a special surprise waiting in the home dressing room. Jamie was stunned when his favourite Celtic player, Auston Trusty, was waiting to spend time with him, talk about how well he’d been doing at the Ability Counts, and what it’s like to play for the badge. The meeting was a powerful reminder of the unique bond between the club, Foundation, and the supporters who make our community so special. The impact of the day was best captured by Jamie’s Mum, Maryjane, who shared her gratitude following the surprise: “Well, I can honestly say you’ve made Jamie Bhoy’s day… year in fact (his words). “He came home so emotional saying it’s the best day of his life and would love to do more for the club. Honestly, you’ve made my bhoy’s wee day.” Donna-Marie Henry, Head of Celtic FC Foundation, added: “Football clubs have a unique ability to bring people together and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Through Ability Counts, we see how the simple act of playing the game can break down barriers, foster friendships and build confidence in ways that go far beyond the pitch. “Jamie’s reaction today is a powerful reminder of how our club and Foundation can help create moments of absolute joy, belonging and memories that will last a lifetime.” Nicky Reid, Chief Executive of the SPFL Trust, said: “The impact delivered by associated community trusts across Scotland is extraordinary. Football plays a vital role in tackling some of our country’s great challenges, with our trusts and clubs helping to promote health, wellbeing and inclusion. UNITED gives us the chance to celebrate the incredible people and partnerships behind that amazing work.” Watch the moment Jamie was surprised by Auston Trusty below:For more information about our Ability Counts project please contact us at [email protected] or 0141 551 4321.
