Recently, I wrote about our challenges with annoying popups and videos that appear on some of the news sources that we link to via our in-app browser.
I emphasised then that the popups are not ours – we’re certainly not making any money from them, although I can see why some users might think so.
One thing’s for sure – these ads do make stories almost impossible to read at times, so we want to give users the tools to deal with them.
We’re working on a larger update to the in-app browser which should equip it with the same features – like Reader View – that are found in the default browser on your iOS/Android device.
In the meantime, we’ve updated all links so that they open in your default browser (such as Safari or Chrome) instead of our in-app browser.
This makes for a slightly less slick experience, because it means you’re jumping back and forth between the Celtic news now app and your browser to read news (like the old app).
However, it does enable you to take advantage of your browser’s Reader View feature to block annoying ads and popups, so the compromise is probably worth it for most users in the short term.
We’ll do our best to get the new in-app browser up and running soon!
It would be great to know what you think of this latest update – please email me any feedback (positive or negative) at [email protected].
