Bray 2 the Celtic Way: Supporters take on cycling challenge in support of Celtic FC Foundation and Suicide or Survive

Celtic FC Foundation supporters Gareth Lewins and Alan Wallace are set to take on an incredible endurance challenge this April, as they cycle from Bray Beach in Ireland all the way to the Celtic Way, raising vital funds for both the Foundation and Suicide or Survive. The duo will set off at 6am on Friday, April 10, 2026, embarking on a demanding journey that will see them arrive in Glasgow in time for the 3pm kick-off at Celtic Park the following day, as we host St Mirren. Inspired by Gareth’s own personal experiences and his involvement in previous Foundation initiatives, the ‘Bray 2 the Celtic Way’ challenge is driven by a desire to give back and to support those who may be facing some of life’s most difficult moments. Explaining what motivated him to take on the challenge, Gareth said: “Bray 2 the Celtic Way stemmed from taking part in the Foundation’s Sleep Out in Wicklow in 2024, which was very enjoyable and fulfilling, knowing we helped so many people in need, at what can be a very challenging time of year. “Having struggled with my own mental health for many years, after being directly affected by suicide, I decided to take up cycling as a way of coping. With my love for Celtic and my new-found enjoyment of cycling, I thought, why not challenge myself, combine the two and raise funds for two very worthy charities that are close to my heart. “Without the services of both Celtic FC Foundation and Suicide or Survive, so many people’s lives would not have been positively impacted when most in need – myself included. To be doing this challenge and raising much needed funds for both charities makes me very proud. “If the funds we raise can help just one person into a Foundation project, or help just one person struggling with their mental health, then it’s a success.” Reflecting on the impact of the fundraising, Alan added: “I only came across the Foundation through Gareth being a big Celtic fan, but it has been fantastic to see the incredible work they do. Suicide or Survive are really close to my heart and have helped me personally when I have struggled with my own mental health, so it means a lot to me that the money we raise will go towards helping vulnerable people in the community” Funds raised through the ‘Bray 2 the Celtic Way’ Cycle will support Celtic FC Foundation’s work assisting the most vulnerable in the community, as well as Suicide or Survive (SOS), a highly impactful Irish charity dedicated specifically to suicide prevention and saving lives. Speaking on behalf of Celtic FC Foundation, Head of Foundation, Jane Maguire said: “We are very humbled and incredibly grateful to have been selected as a beneficiary of Gareth and Alan’s amazing efforts and we are really looking forward to welcoming them to Celtic Park, as they complete their incredible challenge in April. Supporter-led fundraising initiatives like this are hugely important for us and the monies raised will be invaluable in helping so many vulnerable individuals, not only through the Foundation but also through Suicide or Survive. Thanks so much to Gareth and Alan for their wonderful support.” Catherine Brogan, CEO of Suicide or Survive added: “SOS are absolutely thrilled and honoured to have been chosen by Gareth and Alan as a designated charity, alongside Celtic FC Foundation, for the ‘Bray 2 the Celtic Way’ Cycle. To us this event and partnership is about raising awareness of the impact of having courageous conversations and breaking the silence that surrounds suicide. “The funds raised will support Suicide or Survive to deliver our life-saving programmes that offer the possibility of hope, community and connection even on the darkest of days and the ability to live well with thoughts of suicide. We are immensely grateful for all those involved and all who have donated so far for the support’. We wish Gareth and Alan all the very best of luck with their challenge and thank them for their incredible commitment and support.
