Celtic FC Women can confirm that Caitlin Hayes will depart after four years with the club, signing for WSL side Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee. The Ireland internationalist joined ahead of the 2020/21 season, fulfilling her dream of playing for her childhood team. Caitlin quickly became a cornerstone of Celtic’s success, contributing to one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. Over the course of her time at Celtic Park, Caitlin made 153 appearances and became known for her eye for goal, netting 40 times. In May 2024, Caitlin played her part in helping Celtic secure their first-ever Scottish Women’s Premier League title, a historic achievement for the club. During her time with the Hoops, she also lifted the Scottish Women’s Cup in 2021/22 and 2022/23 and scored the decisive winner in the 1-0 victory over Glasgow City 2021/22 SWPL Cup final. Caitlin also played a role in the backline as Celtic qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champions’ League group stages for the first time during the 2024/25 season. Her outstanding performances earned her numerous accolades, including Celtic Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, and PFA Scotland Player of the Year for 2023/24. A fans-favourite, Caitlin’s iconic pink pre-wrap and her contributions, both on and off the pitch will be remembered by both fans and the club alike. After completing her move south of the border, Hayes bid farewell to the club, saying: “It has been nothing short of one of the greatest honours of my life to wear the green and white “My nine-year-old self would never have believed that her wildest dreams would become her reality. But I guess, after all, I was just a ghirl with a dream and a fan that got lucky.” ‘I wish nothing but success for everyone involved with Celtic Football Club. Once a Celt, always a Celt.’ Head-coach, Elena Sadiku added: “I want to thank Caitlin for everything she has done for the club, the fans and the team, overall, throughout her years here. “But especially since I have come to Glasgow, she has been very important for the team on the pitch. “She has been a great character. She is taking the step now to the Women’s Super League, with a great time like Brighton. “She is achieving one of her dreams, which I’m always going to support my players to achieve their dreams and try to reach their full potential. ‘We all wish her the very best of luck with everything, both in her career and in life, and hopefully one day we can see her back at Celtic.’
