Callum McGregor: We’re positive going in to next week’s game in Munich

Bayern Munich may have left Celtic Park with a 2-1 win after last night’s Champions League knockout phase play-off match, but the performance from the Celts in the closing stages of the game and Daizen Maeda’s consolation goal 10 minutes from the end means that the tie is by no means finished going in to next week’s second leg in Munich. The atmosphere inside Celtic Park went stratospheric just 25 seconds in to the match when Nicolas Kühn bent a shot in to the bottom corner from outside the box, but an offside decision against Adam Idah meant that the goal was ruled out. It would have been the best possible start, and a moment that would have been spoken about for years to come, however, despite eventually going two goals behind against the Bundesliga leaders, the Bhoys kept driving forward and managed to grab a goal through Daizen Maeda. The Celts had Bayern Munich on the ropes as the game drew to a close, but despite being unable to grab the equaliser, the Scottish champions have more than a puncher’s chance when they travel to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday. And speaking to Celtic TV after last night’s match, Callum McGregor was positive about the Hoops’ chances next week as he reflected on the match. “It was a tough game,” he said. “We knew it would be. “There wasn’t much in the game to be fair, especially in the last 25 minutes, we were making it really competitive and we’re unlucky not to get the equaliser. “They’ve got big quality and you can see that with their goals. It’s an amazing finish for the first one, and if you leave Harry Kane unmarked, he’s going to get goals. ‘We’re competitive. We’re still in the tie and that’s where we want to be.’ “If we go there and score the first goal then who knows. “We don’t want to lose games of football, but I think we see enough in the game that we can go and be positive next week.”The Celts showed their mentality and their character after going two goals behind as they continued to battle against Bayern and ultimately ended the match as the stronger side. And the Celtic captain was keen to praise his teammates for the level of personality they showed on the biggest stage in European football. He added: “The bravery, the way the boys stay in the game at this level, you have to commend them for that. “At 2-0, the game can look difficult, but probably at that part we start to play properly and start moving them about, playing through the lines. “We played some nice football in the last 25 minutes and we’re unlucky not to get the equaliser.”FixturesCeltic Vs.
