Today, Saturday, April 11, marks World Parkinson’s Day and Celtic FC Foundation is once again proud to support this important campaign, helping to raise awareness and show support for those living with the condition. Parkinson’s remains the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. In Scotland alone, around 13,000 people are currently living with Parkinson’s, with more than 30 people receiving a new diagnosis each week. In early 2023, Celtic FC Foundation formed a partnership with Parkinson’s UK and Glasgow Life to deliver free weekly walking football sessions across Glasgow. Now hosted at Glasgow Life’s Toryglen Regional Football Centre, the free sessions are open to people living with Parkinson’s and provide a welcoming, supportive environment where participants can enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits of regular activity. The project continues to grow, with the Foundation committed to supporting individuals, who may not currently be engaged in sport or exercise. Celtic FC Foundation Head of Foundation, Donna-Marie Henry, said: “At Celtic FC Foundation, it’s important for us to stand alongside those living with Parkinson’s and to support World Parkinson’s Day once again. Through our Walking Football project, we’ve seen the positive impact that physical activity and social connection can have. This project is about more than football – it’s about building connections, improving wellbeing and ensuring everyone has the chance to stay active and connected.” For more information on our Parkinson’s Walking Football project, please contact [email protected].
