Celtic FC to Celebrate 137th Anniversary with Annual Mass at St Mary’s

Celtic’s annual celebratory Mass at St Mary’s in the Calton takes place this Wednesday, November 6 at 7pm, commemorating the 137th anniversary of the club’s formation. Led by an Irish Marist, Brother Walfrid, Celtic Football Club was founded for the maintenance of dinner tables for the children and the unemployed and we have enjoyed a celebration Mass to mark our foundation every year since the club’s 125th anniversary. The date also coincides with the launch of Celtic FC Foundation’s annual Christmas Appeal, which aims to help those less fortunate living in Glasgow and further afield. This year, the Mass will be conducted by new St Mary’s parish priest Father John Mulholland, and as always, it will be a celebration of Celtic’s long and illustrious history. Speaking about the Annual Mass, Father John Mulholland said: “As the newly appointed parish priest of St Mary’s, it is both a pleasure and a privilege to welcome the Celtic Family to the birthplace of our club, and the parish of St Mary’s. “This Mass began as a celebration of 125 years of the football club, but now it has become an annual event in our parish calendar, and it is important that we all remember Brother Walfrid, the Founding Fathers, and the reasons for which our club was born.” Once again, it’s sure to be an evening filled with emotion and a huge sense of pride, so we encourage supporters of all faiths and none to come along and share it with us.
