Players from Celtic FC Women recently visited St Michael’s Primary School to take part in Celtic FC Foundation’s Joy of moving project, with the special visit delivered as part of celebrations around International Women’s Day. Goalkeeper Chloe Logan and midfielder Clare Goldie joined a Primary Seven class for a fun and engaging session focused on movement, teamwork and healthy living. Both players have strong local connections and progressed through the Celtic Women’s Academy, making the visit particularly meaningful as they hope to inspire the next generation of young people growing up in the club’s local community. Delivered by Celtic FC Foundation, in partnership with the SPFL Trust, Joy of moving is a curricular-based initiative aimed at tackling health inequalities in some of the most deprived areas of Glasgow. The project engages children during school time and promotes health and physical activity through a combination of classroom learning and practical activity sessions. Across a six-week period, pupils take part in two 45-minute sessions each week delivered by Celtic FC Foundation colleagues. Classroom sessions focus on balanced lifestyle choices, including nutrition, hydration and the benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle, before the students put these lessons into practice through a variety of fun movement-based games. During the visit, Chloe and Clare joined the class in some of the activities and spoke about their journeys in football, encouraging the young people to stay active, work hard and believe in their ambitions. The visit was a fitting way to mark International Women’s Day, with two players who developed through the club’s academy pathway demonstrating to local young people that success in sport can start right within their own community. Chloe Logan said: “When I was in primary school, we didn’t have women’s players coming into schools to speak to us or take part in sessions like this. That’s why opportunities like today are so important. As professional footballers, part of our role is to inspire the next generation, whether that’s encouraging young people to become players themselves or simply to enjoy being active, so it’s great for us to be here with the Foundation and take part in the project. Through projects such as Joy of moving, Celtic FC Foundation continues to use the power of sport and physical activity to support young people’s health, wellbeing and personal development across local communities.
