Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the support which its first-team stars have given to this year’s Deaf Sports Personality of the Year Awards. At the event, held at the Glasgow Science Centre last weekend, the achievements of the UK’s deaf athletes were recognised. Celtic players were delighted to get involved by offering their own support and congratulations through sign language specially taught for the occasion. Players such as Luke McCowan, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Kyogo and Callum McGregor all assisted, sending their messages through British Sign Language (BSL), with their congratulations and best wishes message shown on stage on screen, generating a fantastic response from the audience. Richard Weinbaum the Co-Founder and Co-Ordinator for DSPY said: “We would like to give our thanks to Celtic Football Club for giving BSL congratulatory messages to our winners and nominees at our DSPY Awards. “The audience was really inspired by these messages and sincerely appreciate the support to raise awareness of our deaf sports and broaden our reach to a wider audience.” Celtic captain, Callum McGregor said: “We were delighted to show our support for these fantastic athletes who have enjoyed so much success in their own sports. “It was really nice for us to learn some signing and gave us a chance to send our own congratulations and celebrate some great sporting achievements.” Alexis Dobbin, Celtic’s Disability Liaison Officer said: “It is fantastic that our players supported the awards in this way. “There were so many deserving winners on the evening and I know our players were so pleased to help. “The awards night recognises the amazing achievements of some brilliant athletes. “We were pleased this year to welcome Scotland’s national deaf team to our training centre and are delighted to promote the success and achievements again of so many wonderful sports people.”
