It was announced on Friday that goalkeeper, Ross Doohan had made his return to Glasgow’s East End, signing a three-year deal with the Celts and coming back to the place where his career started. Doohan came through the ranks of the club’s Academy before spending time with various clubs in Scotland and England, including Ayr United, Ross County, Tranmere Rovers and Forest Green Rovers. Whilst the keeper gained valuable experience during his years away from the club, as he sat down with Celtic TV’s Daylin Docherty today at Celtic Park, it was clear to see that he feels like he is back home at Paradise. Speaking about his delight at returning to Celtic Park and the prospect of joining the Celts’ goalkeeping unit, Doohan said: “I’m absolutely buzzing. As soon as the call came about the possibility of coming back, I was eager to get it done as soon as possible. “This place has played a big part in my life. I grew up here basically, having been here for 11 years before I went away. “Coming in the front doors today was a great feeling. My dad had been showing me pictures from when I first signed at 13 and from when I signed my first pro contract at 16. ‘It’s a full circle moment. It was always my dream to come back.’ “I’ve got a good relationship with Stevie Woods, I’ve known him for many years. He’s a top goalkeeper coach. “And the goalkeeping group with Kasper and Vil, they’re two top goalkeepers and I’m there to push them and learn from both of them.”Doohan, who joins the champions from Aberdeen, brings with him not only a wealth of experience from his time spent playing domestic football north and south of the border, but also experience of senior international football. The 27-year old was recently called up to Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad and made his debut in a 4-0 away win over Liechtenstein earlier this month. And, reflecting on how he has developed during his time away from Celtic and on the magnitude of getting his first cap for Scotland, Doohan spoke about his future international ambitions. “In my time away, I feel like I’ve become more mature as a person and a player,” he said. “I’ve been out and played a lot of games, so I feel more experienced. “I’ve grown up quite a bit since I left Celtic. Hopefully that puts me in good stead to come in and add to the squad. “Making my Scotland debut was a huge moment for me, and it came about unexpectedly. “I was on holiday with my family when I got the phone call and had to fly home and go straight in to it. “I felt that helped because I didn’t have much time to think about it and, realistically, it’s probably not sunk in completely yet that I’ve got my first cap. It’s just made me want more. “I want to come in to Celtic, work as hard as I can and put myself in the window to get some game time. “If that comes, I’m sure the next stage will be trying to become the Scotland No. 1, which will hopefully happen in the future.” Ross Doohan’s full interview is available to watch now on Celtic TV SUBSCRIBE TO CELTIC TV
