SWPL Sunday, September 14, 2025Balmoral Stadium ABERDEEN…2 (Stewart 63, 77) CELTIC…4 (Cross 34, McAneny 72, O.G 80, Luke 86) Celtic FC Women returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon, running out 4-2 winners over Aberdeen. In what was a resilient performance from the Hoops, three second half goals ultimately helped the Celts to victory. Following on from suffering their first defeat of the campaign last weekend, the Ghirls were back on the road looking to get back to winning ways. Making the long trip to Aberdeen, Elena Sadiku made one change to her side from that Rangers game, bringing in Emma Westin to replace Aislin Streicek. There was also a place on the bench for Hannah Luke, who became the latest addition to the Celtic squad earlier this week. In the early stages, all the pressure was coming the way of Celtic, with Emma Westin unfortunate not to give the Hoops the lead. Driving inside her marker, the winger directed a curling effort towards goal, which struck the crossbar, before eventually being cleared. Natalie Ross was also looking to cause trouble for the home side, having two effort blocked off inside the area. The Celts did manage to fire themselves in front in the opening half, through Morgan Cross. Having picked up the player of the month award following a strong August, the winger picked up where she left off, firing Celtic ahead with a superb, volleyed effort. It was a half of pressure from Celtic, but not much in the way of chances, with the Celts pressing really well and looking to find more openings. Despite their dominance, the second half proved to be a bit of a chaotic second 45 minutes. The home side were able to level the scoring up just beyond the hour mark from the penalty spot after Maria McAneny was judged to have handled the ball. The Ghirls thought they should have had a penalty of their own shortly after as Emma Lawton’s headed effort appeared to be handled on the goal line. However, it didn’t take long for the Celts to go back ahead as Maria McAneny produced a smart finish over the goalkeeper to make the scoring 2-1. The match was once again turned on it’s head though, with Aberdeen levelling up the scoring once, heading home an equaliser from inside the box. With just ten minutes to play, it could have been easy for the Celts to lose their composure. But it proved to be a resilient performance in the final ten minutes of the match. Having come on in the second half to make her Celtic debut, Hannah Luke proved to be a difference maker. For the third goal, her wicked delivery into the box from a corner was diverted goalwards by the Aberdeen defender, putting Celtic back ahead. Then, the three points were wrapped up on 86 minutes as Luke’s corner went all the way through, into the back of the net. It was a resilient display from the Ghirls, who had to fight for all three points, sealing the victory at the death. Next up, Sadiku and her squad will be aiming to build upon that result as they welcome Hibernian to New Douglas Park.FixturesAberdeen Women Vs. Celtic Women – Sun, Sep 14th 2025, 16:10
