SWPL Sunday, October 19, 2025New Douglas Park CELTIC…1 (Noonan 81) GLASGOW CITY…2 (Määttä 35, Evan 61) Celtic FC Women suffered defeat on Sunday afternoon, losing out 2-1 against Glasgow City at New Douglas Park. After falling two goals behind in the second half, Saoirse Noonan looked to give the Ghirls a way back into the match with ten minutes remaining. However, the Celts couldn’t find a way to goal, losing out in the final game before the first international break of the season. Following on from last weekend’s 7-1 win over Motherwell, it was back-to-back home matches for Elena Sadiku and her side. The Celtic Head Coach named the same starting eleven from that victory as the Hoops eyed up three points. The opening stages provided an even affair between the two sides, who were looking to suss one another out. Saoirse Noonan had the Celts’ first effort, heading a long ball towards the box on goal, but she couldn’t trouble the City goalkeeper. For much of the early stages, the Hoops were doing well to deny the away side many opportunities on goal, with much of their early play coming from set plays. Aislin Streicek also had an opening at goal after a well worked throw-in made its way towards her in the area, but she blazed the ball over the crossbar. With ten minutes until the break, it was Glasgow City who would strike first, through Sofia Määttä. Having defended an initial set piece well, the ball broke back to City, with Kozlava having the chance to get her head up and pick a pass. The forward found the run of Määttä, who produced a composed finish beyond the on-rushing Lisa Rodgers, who was left with very little chance. Heading into the second half, following a disappointing end to the first 45 minutes, the Celts were looking to bounce back. They started the second 45 minutes well, enjoying more of the ball, whilst looking to break down the away defence. The Ghirls were unfortunate not to find the leveller just before the hour mark as Saoirse Noonan seen a headed effort come off the crossbar. After making a smart run to the back post, the striker met the set piece delivery into the box, which took a deflection off a City defender. Heading towards goal, the ball struck the woodwork, before eventually being cleared to safety by the visitors. Just moments later, it was once again the away side who would grab the all-important second goal of the game, to double their advantage. Lisa Evans was this time the scorer, seeing her dinked effort to the back post loop over Lisa Rodgers and into the back of the net. With around 15 minutes left to go, Celtic were pushing hard for a way back into the game, working some nice pieces of play around the Glasgow City box. They did find a goal back through Saoirse Noonan on 81 minutes, as the striker pounced on a mistake before tucking a finish into the far bottom corner. As the Ghirls pushed for a late equaliser, the best chance fell just minutes before the end as Maria McAneny met Noonan’s low cross into the area. However, the midfielder just couldn’t direct her strike on goal from the angle at the front post. Ultimately, it would end in defeat for the Celts as the away side ran out 2-1 winners in Hamilton. With a break from action due to the international break, the Hoops will have to wait for the opportunity to bounce back as they take on Hamilton Accies on Friday, October 31.FixturesCeltic Women Vs.
