SWPL Friday, February 14, 2025Petershill Park GLASGOW CITY…2 (Muir 25, Koslova 30) CELTIC…2 (Gallacher 2, McAneny 51) Celtic FC Women were held to a 2-2 draw against Glasgow City on Friday evening as both side’s took home a point. Racing into a one-goal lead thanks to an early Amy Gallacher strike, the Hoops found themselves behind in the first half. However, an early second half strike from Maria McAneny sealed a point on the road for Elena Sadiku’s side. Following an emphatic 8-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice, it was another evening of Friday night football for the Ghirls. And having made a blistering start last week against United, the Hoops did the same at Petershill, opening the scoring inside two minutes. Returning to the starting line-up, Amy Gallacher fired home the opener with a superb strike on her 101st appearance in green and white. It was the ideal way to kick-off proceedings for the Ghirls, who enjoyed a bright opening period with Saoirse Noonan having a few sights at goal early on. Morgan Cross was also a constant threat down the right for the Celts, with her pace and dribbling causing issues for the home side. However, the game was soon flipped on its head as Glasgow City scored twice inside five minutes to take the lead. With two fairly similar efforts, the home side turned the match around in the opening 45 minutes as Sadiku and her side found themselves suddenly behind on the half hour mark. Just before the break, Saoirse Noonan had an effort go close from a free kick just outside the box, which went narrowly wide. It was a warning shot to the home side, and it didn’t take much longer for the Hoops to find themselves level through Maria McAneny. The midfielder who found two goals at Tannadice last week, make it three goals in two games with another superb strike, finding the corner of the net inside the area. In the second 45 minutes, it was the Hoops who enjoyed a number of strong spells and looking to push on and find that all-important third goal. Glasgow City did have spells in the game where they looked to get forward. But Kelsey Daugherty was constantly a match for any shot or cross fired her way. Natalie Ross came close to firing the Hoops in front just before the hour mark, forcing Lee Gibson into an important stop from an effort on the edge. Substitutes Kit Loferski and Abi Harrison also threatened the City goal, but were unlucky not to find the target on three occasions. Despite being in the ascendancy for much of the second 45, it would ultimately end all square at Petershill Park. That result leaves the Hoops level with Glasgow City at the top, and as we head into the international break with one fixture remaining before the split. CELTIC: Daugherty.
