Claire Walsh: I was delighted to get my first goal in win over Motherwell

With 14 different scorers across the board within the Celtic squad this season, it would be fair to say the goals are very much spread throughout the team. And that number was added to on Sunday as Claire Walsh netted her first goal in green and white since joining in the summer. The defender has been a huge performer at the back for the Ghirls so far this season but had yet to find the way to net at the other end. That changed on Sunday afternoon as she smashed home the opener from a corner against Motherwell in the Hoops’ 2-0 win. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Walsh reflected on the team’s performance as a whole, stating they were delighted to get back to league action with a win. She said: “We are delighted to get back to league action and with a win to go with that too for the first time this year. “Especially coming off the back of a big win last weekend against Hibs in the cup, we’re delighted to just get back and get those three points, and a clean sheet. “It was important not to get frustrated because we had a lot of chances in the first half. ‘But we remained patient, we kept playing our style of play and eventually the goals came. So that was really positive.’ “It can be really easy to get frustrated. But you just need to keep doing what we are good at and believe that we are going to get a goal. “I think it was good to get them right before half time as well because it gives you that momentum going into the second half.”Although the goal will be the moment to remember from Walsh in the game, it was also another solid performance at the back from the Irish defender. That has become a consistent theme from her display in the Hoops, helping the Celts keep a total of eight clean sheets so far this campaign. That being said, the centre-back was delighted to get off the mark in a win that the Ghirls will look to keep building upon heading into the coming weeks. “It’s about time, isn’t it?” she said. “I was delighted to get a goal. “Defending is my main job. But you are obviously delighted to contribute to the team in front of goal too and important to get the win today.” ‘Set pieces’ are actually something we spoke about this week, and we think we can be a lot better from them.’ “We get quite a lot in the games, so I think our conversation rate can go up. So, it was good to get a goal from that today. “We are buzzing just now to get another win, and we will just be looking to keep that going heading into next week too.”FixturesMotherwell Women Vs.
