It was the perfect start to life as a Celtic player for Claire Walsh, who marked her debut with a 2-1 victory over Hearts last Sunday. The central defender, who signed for the Hoops in the summer, following a four-year stay at Glasgow City, kicked off her career as a Celtic player on the opening day of the SWPL season. And whilst her debut offered up a tough outing as the Celts travelled to take on Hearts, the Republic of Ireland internationalist played her part in what was a strong performance for Elena Sadiku’s side. Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of the Hoops’ return to New Douglas Park for a first home match of the campaign, Walsh reflected on a successful start to her Celtic career. The defender insisted it was a proud moment to make her debut, particularly given the performance last Sunday. She said: “It was a really proud moment to go out there and make my Celtic debut. “It was a really good performance, too, especially in the first half. We showed how much of a good team we are and what we’re looking to build on. “I think our performance showed both sides of us. We can play that nice football like we did in the first half. “But also in the second half, when we needed to dig deep and find a way to win, we did exactly that. ‘We defended really well throughout the game, and I thought that was brilliant from us.’ “The Oriam is one of the toughest fixtures you could get. Hearts are an excellent team, and we know that. “We prepared really well for it, and I think that showed on Sunday. So we were all buzzing to get the three points.”Next up for Walsh and Celtic is a return home as they get set to take on Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park this Sunday (August 24). Having started things off with three points, the Ghirls are desperate to continue that strong start with another victory. Of course, Sunday’s match will also offer up a first opportunity for Walsh to play in front of the Celtic fans at home, and that is something the defender insists the entire squad is looking forward too. “We treat all of our matches the same as any other game,” she said. “We just have to keep preparing for every game as they come. ‘Every three points is as important as the next, so we are all really excited.’ “Obviously, Hamilton Accies were successful last season. So they are going to want to show that on Sunday. “We have to prepare as best as possible and show just how good we are. “I think the standard of training has been excellent, so it will be great to be able to go out and show that again on Sunday. “I can’t wait to play at home for the first time. We are all really excited for it and hopefully, we can get another three points, and the fans can come out and support us.” JOIN THE JOURNEY – SEASON TICKETS AVALIABLE ONLINE As Claire Walsh gets set to make her home debut on Sunday, you can play your part across the course of the 2025/26 season.
