Elena Sadiku: Getting the win and clean sheet was very important

Celtic FC Women continued their winning start to the SWPL season, securing an important three points against Glasgow City on Sunday afternoon. Heading into the second match of the campaign, the Ghirls faced their first derby of the season, welcoming their city rivals to the Albert Bartlett Stadium. And it was Elena Sadiku’s side who would come out on top following a competitive 90 minutes in Airdrie. Chloe Craig’s second-half penalty was enough to seal all three points as the defender slotted the ball home with ease from 12 yards out. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Sadiku admitted she was pleased that her side was able to come away with the win. Although there were aspects of the performance the Swedish coach believes her squad could improve on, ultimately, the most important thing was securing three points and a clean sheet. She said: “It was a big three points. We secured another win, with a clean sheet – that is something that I feel is the most important. “But obviously it wasn’t our best performance. That is something that is making me feel not as happy as I would like to be. ‘Obviously I think the way I’m feeling is because I have such high demands and standards for us as a team.’ “You know we are Celtic, and we play games to win. That is what we did today, so I really like how the girls kept the game in our favour by fighting and making sure that we don’t concede a goal. “So, all credit to them after showing what they showed today, especially in the second half.”It is a quick turnaround now for the Celts, who are quickly back in action this midweek as they play out their third home match in a row to start the season. Taking on Motherwell on Wednesday evening, the Celtic boss admits there will be some changes to the side as the busy start to the campaign continues. No matter who the 30-year-old has in the starting line-up though, she is confident given the strength of her squad, with another three points up for grabs. “It’s not a secret that I feel like this squad is very strong,” she said. “We also already have a game on Wednesday, so I know there is going to be some changes as well for that game. ‘But the players who have come in, they did great making sure they come in with energy and knowing what they need to do.’ “Obviously we have other players that didn’t even come in today. So, we just need to look forward to the next game and hopefully more players will play.”FixturesCeltic Women Vs. Glasgow City Women – Sun, Aug 18th 2024, 16:10FixturesCeltic Women Vs.
