It was back to winning ways for the Ghirls on Sunday evening as the Celts ran out 4-0 winners against Hearts at New Douglas Park. After seeing the originally scheduled visit of the Edinburgh side moved from Friday to Sunday, it presented an opportunity for Elena Sadiku’s side to climb above Hearts in the table. And goals from Shannon McGregor, Saoirse Noonan, Morgan Cross and Natalie Ross helped the Hoops to an important three points. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, the Celtic Head Coach reflected on her squad’s performance, insisting it was a pleasing night for her squad after responding to defeat in the Sky Sports Cup last weekend. She said: “I thought in the first half especially, we were brilliant, and we showed a real dominant side to our game, “I think Hearts had difficulty dealing with us in possession, and obviously with our performance scoring three goals in the first half, that just showed how good an offensive team we are. “That is something we have been working on. Looking at the second half, we maybe weren’t on it as much. ‘But we also managed to score a goal, which is great. Overall, I’m very happy with how we bounced back after last weekend.’ “We also obviously lost one of our games against Hearts earlier in the season, so it was nice to just get some revenge and show that we are so much better than how we were against Hearts last time.”With another league match quickly on the horizon for the Celts, Sadiku and her squad travel to Ochilview on Wednesday evening to take on Queen’s Park (KO: 8pm). That match offers up another opportunity to climb the table, with the Hoops aiming to go level on points with league leaders, Glasgow City. Alongside an impressive evening on Sunday, the Celts also welcomed debutants Emma Westin and Abi Harrison into the side for their debuts. And Elena Sadiku is aiming to see her squad continue to build on Wednesday night against Queen’s Park. ““I’ve said it to the girls, everything is in our hands. Obviously, we are wanting to push forward now and wanting to score many goals. “Hopefully, we can try to score a lot of goals on Wednesday and try to take us back to top of the league. But we’re fully focused on that game.”FixturesCeltic Women Vs. Hearts Women – Sun, Jan 26th 2025, 19:45
