Celtic FC Women marked their return to league duties on Sunday afternoon with a comprehensive victory over Partick Thistle. Following on from their UEFA Women’s Champions League exploits, the Ghirls were back in SWPL action making the trip to Kirkintilloch to face the Jags. And they made the perfect start to the match with first-half goals from Shannon McGregor and Murphy Agnew, before the Celtic midfielder added her second on the hour mark. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Hoops boss Elena Sadiku insisted she was proud with her side’s display on the afternoon after putting in an impressive performance. She said: “I think overall, it was a really good performance. I think especially in the first half, we dominated, and it was the same in the second half as well. “We created chances to score more goals. I’m just very proud of how the team reacted today. We earned this win – for me today, we were just brilliant. ‘It was nice to get a good start with the goal, but I think how we played and how we created chances was nice.’ “The girls were hungry and had so much energy. They played amazing football, so I’m very proud today. “This is how we want to play. We want to play attacking football that is about dominating, we play forward when we can. “The girls played amazing. The decision-making was better today. But also, we need to highlight the defence, who were really sharp today.”It is a quick turnaround now for Sadiku and her squad, with another league fixture on the horizon this Thursday evening. Making the trip to Montrose, the Celts will be aiming to continue their unbeaten start to the season. And the Celtic boss believes that with the strength in her squad the Ghirls will be well equipped ahead of a busy few weeks. “We have a new game on Thursday now, and it’s probably going to look different as well. ‘So we just need to keep pushing to our principles and how we want to play football because we need the whole squad.’ “We have a really intense schedule ahead of us. But for me, I’m very pleased because it makes me happy to see my players perform well. So, I’m very happy!“FixturesPartick Thistle Women Vs. Celtic Women – Sun, Sep 15th 2024, 16:10Montrose Women Vs.
