Elena Sadiku: It was important to get the win on our return to action

Celtic FC Women marked their return to action with three goals and three points, defeating Hamilton Accies on Friday evening. Also keeping a clean sheet, it was a successful evening for Elena Sadiku and her side as they bounced back to winning ways with a 3-0 win. It was a dominant performance from the Hoops, with goals coming from Saoirse Noonan and Maria McAneny, as well as a first of the season for Lisa Robertson. Whilst it was a pleasing night to come away with all three points, naturally, there were aspects of the performance the Ghirls will look to build upon. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Sadiku expressed her delight at the win and quality of chances created from her side on the night. However, the Celtic boss believes her side should have been more clinical in front of goal. She said: “Obviously, it was very important to get the win tonight (Friday) and get that clean sheet. Something that I wanted to see was the amount of chances that we create too. “But also the quality of those chances. I think if you look at that, then we could and maybe should have scored more goals. ‘We’re really happy with different things we talked about before the game, but we should have scored more goals too’ “So that is the only part that is a little bit disappointing coming away from the game. “You can see that in the game tonight we have had a quick turnaround since some of the squad being back from international duty. “We had Saoirse returning yesterday, and Emma (Lawton) was obviously someone who we had to manage her load after a game for Scotland on Tuesday. “It was really nice to give Sienna McGoldrick the chance from the start, because she has been doing really good. “But I think in terms of that, we could have come away with more goals still in the end.”Friday evening’s match also marked a 50th appearance for Saoirse Noonan, who took her tally for the Hoops to 38 goals. Sadiku paid tribute to the striker after the match, insisting that the Ireland internationalist brings a lot to the Celtic frontline. With the Hoops now having some time to work on the training pitch before their next outing, Sadiku is hoping to see a similar performance, but with more clincal edge as the Ghirls take on Queen’s Park in the Sky Sports Cup. “I’ve said it before; Saoirse is a quality striker,” she said. “You can see that in the amount of chances that she creates tonight. ‘I think that is something that I’m really happy with that. Getting her fully fit is going to be a key thing for us.’ “Next weekend against Queen’s Park will probably be a similar game. I think for us, it’s going to be important that we do what we did tonight (Friday). “Go out there, and create those quality chances again, but also be a bit more clinical because something we need to be aware of is those chances we create maybe don’t come as often against the top teams. “So, we need to be more clinical and then obviously we are going to get some goals in as well. “So, it’s about keeping that improvement going and making sure we take it in the right direction.”FixturesHamilton Academical Women Vs.
