Elena Sadiku: It’s good to be back after the international break

This Sunday will mark a return to action for Celtic FC Women as the Ghirls kick off December with a Scottish Cup tie. Elena Sadiku’s side enter the competition at the third round stage, and face lower league opposition in Dunfermline Athletic. The entire Hoops squad was back at Barrowfield on Friday afternoon as they got to work on the training pitch ahead of Sunday. Speaking to Celtic TV, Sadiku reflected on what it has been like to have the squad back in the building, being back at training. The Celtic boss insisted that the break came at a good time, with the Ghirls aiming to round the year off strongly in their final three fixtures of 2025. She said: “It’s been very good to get back to work. I’ve been very happy with the intensity and quality that we have shown this week. “I think that reset button was really important to just come back and start fresh after a short break. ‘It was really nice to have everybody back today (Friday). So, we are really excited for Sunday.’ “Obviously, it’s a Scottish Cup game, so we know what is at stake and we’re ready to show what we can do on Sunday.”With five players being out on international duty, the Celts are now back to a full compliment at Barrowfield. Elena Sadiku was delighted to see those players return and join the team-mates who have been working hard on the training pitch over the past week. With a Scottish Cup tie on the horizon, the Celtic boss insists her squad won’t take this weekend’s opponents for granted, with a place in the next round up for grabs. “Having the whole squad back brings a lot of energy,” she said. “Everybody is excited and everybody is happy. “There are more chats and more noise when those players back! It’s wonderful to have everyone back. ‘The training today was really good, so hopefully, we can show that quality on Sunday.’ “The cups isn’t something I have won yet here, so we want to make sure that we are ready to challenge and ready to make sure that we do everything we can to win to get through to the next round. “We know that we are the favourites to win this game because of the quality that we have and the opposition has. “But at the same time, for me, it’s really important how we act as a team and how professional we are. “No matter who we are playing against, we need to be who we are. We want to show the quality that we have and be relentless.”FixturesCeltic FC Women Vs. Dunfermline Athletic Women – Sun, Dec 7th 2025, 12:00
