Elena Sadiku: The girls put in a solid performance to win the first leg

Celtic FC Women took the advantage into leg two of their UEFA Women’s Champions League Round Two after running out 1-0 winners against Vorskla Poltava. Following a strong team performance at the Albert Bartlett Stadium, it was Murphy Agnew’s first-half strike which handed the Hoops the lead at half time in the tie. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Elena Sadiku reflected on her side’s performance, stating that they could have scored more on the day. However, the Celtic boss insisted it was a solid squad performance as a whole, with plenty of learning to take into their next outing against the Ukrainian champions. “I would say that it was a solid performance. When it comes to the first 20 minutes of the game, I think we acted exactly like the game plan was. “I think from then we kind of let them in a bit too much in the game by our own mistakes. ‘Obviously, we created a lot of chances, and we maybe could have scored four at least. But I’m very confident when it comes to how we hurt today.’ “We defended really well. They had a clear chance that they probably should have scored on. “But overall, I think if you look at the game it could have ended 5-1. So, hopefully we can get out of this very confident, which I am. “Now it’s just about recovery and focusing on the second half of this tie.”Victory on Sunday afternoon took the Ghirls one step further to even more history, with a place in the group stages of the Champions League awaiting the winner of the tie. Sadiku believes her squad will be even better equipped for Thursday’s second leg and is looking forward to seeing her side back out on the pitch with a big 90 minutes ahead. “We are one step closer now,” she said. “ That is something that, obviously myself and the staff’s job is to make sure that we know exactly what to do. “But also, how to fix the mistakes that we had today, and make it clearer. ‘Because now we have played against them, and we know what to expect from Vorskla.’ “Now, we just need to be even better for the second leg, and hopefully we can get the job done and qualify for the group stages.”Fixtures FC Vorskla Poltava Vs.
