Elena Sadiku: We want to keep building on our good start to the season

Celtic FC Women are aiming to make it three SWPL wins out of three when they take on Partick Thistle this Sunday at Petershill Park (KO: 1pm). Having kicked off the new campaign with a 2-1 away win against Hearts and a 5-0 victory at home to Hamilton Accies, Elena Sadiku is looking for her side to continue their good form against Thistle this weekend. Looking ahead to the match, the Head Coach told Celtic TV: “I’m really happy that we’re taking steps all the time now, we’re progressing and building relationships on the pitch. So I’m really happy with some parts of the style of play that we’re doing in different phases. “Like I said after the Hamilton game, I’m not so happy with the amount of chances we’re creating compared to the goals that we scored. “But we’ve been looking at it in this week’s sessions and the quality has been good, the standard has been good, and hopefully we can get that out when we play against Partick Thistle. “We want to score in different ways, we want to have different goalscorers and that’s exactly what happened against Hamilton and hopefully we can see more of that this Sunday.“We’re strong but we’re obviously just in the beginning of it and, for me, it’s that patience of everybody looking at the journey and everybody wanting to be 1% better every single day, every single session and every single game, and that’s got to be our mentality throughout the whole season. “We’ve got to be happy because it’s still the start and we’re doing great things, but we want to keep building and make sure we keep working with the details that are going to make us better.” Partick Thistle kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Hamilton Accies before losing 5-0 last week to defending champions, Hibernian. But Elena Sadiku knows that they will be looking to bounce back and will be tough opponents for her side this weekend. “They’re going to work really hard defensively to protect the box,” she said, “but they also had some really good attacking football against Hibs, which we’re aware of, and we want to make sure they can’t do that against us. “But we just need to focus on our style of play, who we want to be and how we want to be perceived as, and we’re just going to keep building on that. “So hopefully you’ll see a front-footed Celtic who wants to score a lot of goals.” JOIN THE JOURNEYSEASON TICKETS AVALIABLE ONLINE Celtic have back-to-back derbies coming up, with Sunday’s away match against Partick Thistle followed by a home game against Rangers at New Douglas Park on Sunday, September 7 (KO: 3.05pm), and you can play your part across the course of the 2025/26 season.
