Elena Sadiku: We’re fully focused on being back to our best this weekend

Ahead of Celtic FC Women’s trip to Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon, Head Coach Elena Sadiku says that her side’s season will not be defined by last weekend’s derby defeat. The Celts went in to their match against Rangers on the back of a three-game winning run in which they had scored 14 goals and conceded only one. But after their 2-0 loss at New Douglas Park last Sunday, Elena Sadiku says that the Hoops are only focused on getting back to winning ways this weekend. Speaking to Celtic TV, she said: “The game against Rangers is not going to define us. It was a setback on the journey that we’re on. “It’s not going to change the fact that we’ve had a positive start to the season. ‘This week has been focused on us getting back to what we’re good at and on what we need to do on Sunday.’ “We weren’t happy with our performance or with how we showed up last weekend, and we’re going to make sure we show it on Sunday.”It was announced earlier today (Friday) that Celtic attacker, Morgan Cross has been named as the SWPL player of the month for August. The award comes after the forward bagged four goals and provided two assists in three games in August, and her manager says that the recognition is thoroughly deserved for a player who provides so much for the team. “Myself as the coach, but also the players, we’re so happy for her,” Elena Sadiku said. “You see her strengths every game and she’s a great person as well. “She does everything for the team, and she’s a player you can count on in every single situation. ‘She deserves that award so much and I’m really proud and happy for her.’ “I think this is only the start for Morgan and for many players in our squad. I’m really looking forward to seeing her keep growing, getting more confident. She really deserves it, so I’m really happy for her.” Looking ahead to this Sunday’s SWPL clash away to Aberdeen, the Hoops boss added: “We need to accept that Aberdeen are not the same team as last season. They’ve improved a lot. “It’s going to be a great challenge for us again. We need to focus on ourselves, we need to play on our strengths. “We’re going to be very attacking again, and every time we lose the ball we’re going to win it back. That’s the intensity and style of play we want to have, and we want to show it again on Sunday.”FixturesAberdeen Women Vs. Celtic Women – Sun, Sep 14th 2025, 16:10
