After playing her part in the 3-2 win over Hibernian, Emma Lawton not only has the accolade of scoring the first goal of the New Year, but also the first of the Grant Scott era. The Ghirls made their return to action on Sunday afternoon following the winter break, with another trip to the capital. Meadowbank was the venue once more as Celtic and Hibs played it out for a place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup. It was the Hoops who would come out on top, thanks to the goals from Lawton, Morgan Cross and Maria McAneny. Speaking to Celtic TV after the game, the defender expressed her delight at both the performance of the team and getting on the scoresheet once more. She said: “I think we grinded it out in the end. In the first half we were really good and had plenty of chances. They had some chances too. “In the second half we obviously didn’t start great conceding the two goals. But I think we responded really well and we did enough to get the win. ‘For me, I obviously love scoring goals.’ “I think set plays are really something that we can use. We’ve got good deliveries into the box and ariel threat. “So, it was nice that today it was me that was able to get on the end of that delivery and put us ahead. “I think you even seen it in the game before Christmas. We’ve got that togetherness and even when we did concede, we knew we could still get a result. “We came together today, and we’ve managed to win and get into the next round.”With the Ghirls getting Grant Scott’s tenure as boss off to the ideal start, it was a great way for Lawton and her team-mates to return to action. Having spent the last week working under the new manager, the defender has insisted that the work on the training pitch has been very positive so far. After booking their place in the last eight, the Scotland internationalist also insisted the Hoops are keen to go far in the Scottish Cup and lift silverware once more. “Grant has obviously come in this week. It been something new and different. It’s been good to get to work under him. “It was a good result to start under a new manager. So, it’s positive and we’re looking forward to what the future holds.” ‘The Scottish Cup is a competition that we want to win.’ “Celtic is a football club that wins trophies. It’s a real aim for us to go and win as much as we can this year. “So, it’s positive to get into the quarter-finals and we’ll look forward to seeing who we get.”FixturesHibernian Women Vs.
