Emma Lawton: We’ll look to use home advantage against Glasgow City

With the first international break on the horizon for Celtic FC Women, there is just one more fixture before a brief pause in league action. And it is set to be a big one with a top-of-the-table clash with Glasgow City. As Elena Sadiku’s side get prepared to welcome City to New Douglas Park this weekend, a place at the top of the SWPL table is up for grabs at this early stage in the season. Ahead of the game, Emma Lawton spoke to the media and explained that the Celtic squad are well-prepared for the clash with the league leaders. She said: “They are a good team. They have got good individual players, but we know we can match them, and we’ve got the players that can expose them. It should be a really good game! “Glasgow City have got different types of wingers, with players that can play on both sides. That is a challenge I’m looking forward too. “They are all there from last year, so I kind of know what they are about. We know it will be tough, but we will be ready for the fight. “We try and treat each game week in our preparation. It’s always the same, but maybe the magnitude of the game is a bit bigger. ‘We always give 100 per cent, and we’re ready, no matter who the opposition is.’ “The new girls that have come in have settled really well. You are starting to see those relationships getting established on the pitch. “Hopefully, that will only get better and better as the season goes on.”With this Sunday providing the first clash between the sides this season, it is set to be an exciting and intriguing match-up. And with the Ghirls playing at home, Lawton believes it is something she and her team-mates will look to use going into match. “Any home game is always an advantage,” she said. “Obviously the crowd have been brilliant so far this season, and with it being our first game against them, it’s one we’ll look to use as an advantage. ‘A good result would set a marker, but it’s obviously a long season and there is a lot left to go.’ “Whether we go in top at the international break, it doesn’t really matter until the end of the season. “As a group of players, it would obviously be nice, it would maybe give us confidence too. But we just need to take the game as it is and try get the three points.” Celtic v Glasgow City, Sunday, October 19, New Douglas Park, Hamilton (KO: 4.10pm) Matchday TicketsFixturesCeltic Women Vs.
