Having first pulled on the Hoops at just 14-years-old on the training pitches at Barrowfield, life has come full circle for Fiona Brown, who is now the Celtic FC Women’s Head of Fitness and Conditioning. After a playing career that took her across Europe and on to the international stage with Scotland, she returned to the club this year to take up her new role. Over the course of her career, Fiona enjoyed great success on the pitch, collecting 61 caps for Scotland and winning multiple domestic honours both at home and abroad. After moving to Sweden in 2016, she spent the bulk of her career there, first with Eskilstuna United before joining FC Rosengård, where she linked up with Celtic Head Coach, Elena Sadiku. At Rosengård, Fiona lifted three Damallsvenskan league titles and two Swedish Cups, before returning to Scotland, where she added three SWPL titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups with Glasgow City. However, across her trophy-laden career, Fiona had to contend with major setbacks. Four separate ACL injuries saw lengthy spells on the sidelines, where each time she worked her way back to the playing field before eventually deciding to retire at the end of the 2024/25 season. The highs and lows of her career have fuelled her passion for performance and sports science, giving her a first-hand insight into the physical demands of elite football and the role preparation plays in preventing injuries. Now back at Barrowfield, working at Celtic’s new state-of-the-art training centre, Fiona is now focused on supporting the players’ physical development and performance. She explained: “I’m really enjoying the role. The high-performance facilities available to the players at Barrowfield are amazing. Strength and conditioning is such a massive part of the game now, both in terms of injury prevention and performance. “I do miss playing, but what I’m doing now on the physical preparation side is the next best thing. It’s a really proud moment for me to be back here. Everyone has been great, it really feels like a full-circle moment.”
