Celtic FC Foundation has today received an incredibly generous donation of £10,000 from Battle Against Dementia, a charity founded by Dougie McCluskey. Dougie along with the McNeill family help launch Billy Against Dementia, a fund established in memory of Celtic legend Billy McNeill, and the donation will bolster the Foundation’s ‘Lions’ Lunch Breaks Glasgow’ project by providing regular live music, entertainment and activities for individuals living with dementia and their carers. Dementia is very close to our hearts and since 2018, thanks to funds raised from the #LionsLegacy initiative, Celtic FC Foundation has strived through its Lions’ Lunch Break projects to improve the quality of life for those living with Dementia. Delivered twice weekly at Celtic Park, the project operates on a simple, friendly and inclusive approach, prioritising responsive and engaging activities as well as a healthy dose of fun and laughter. Lions’ Lunch Breaks also endeavours to engage with and support their loved ones, who on many occasions take on the emotional and physical strain of becoming a full-time carer. Tony Hamilton, Chief Executive of Celtic FC Foundation said: “Dementia affects many families and our function is to help alleviate that both for people living with the condition and their carers. “We’re incredibly grateful to Dougie and Martyn and everyone involved in making such a meaningful contribution to our work. This donation will make a significant difference to people’s lives.” Martyn McNeill of Billy Against Dementia said: “Firstly I would like to thank and acknowledge all the hard work Dougie and the team at Battle Against Dementia have put into raising these funds. “We have personal experiences of how dementia can affect both those who live with the disease and also the family around them. So we are delighted to donate these funds to help Celtic FC Foundation continue their tremendous work helping give some fun, laughter and normality back to all those who suffer with dementia.” Billy Against Dementia are hosting their annual golf day at Marr Hall on Friday 16th May 2025. If you would like to take part in the day please contact Dougie McCluskey on [email protected] for more details For more information on Celtic FC Foundation’s work around Dementia please contact us on [email protected] or 0141 551 4321.
