Celtic TV’s latest Full Match Flashback takes us back to August 1997, when Wim Jansen’s Celtic side produced a wild, topsy-turvy performance against Austria’s Tirol Innsbruck at Paradise. The task was simple – to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit to reach the first round of the UEFA Cup. The way Celtic did it? Anything but simple! Simon Donnelly opened the scoring with a brilliant volley before Andreas Thom struck just before half-time. But the Austrian side refused to go quietly, punishing defensive lapses to keep the tie on a knife-edge. Celtic were ahead, then level, and then behind on away goals late in the second half, only for late goals from Morten Wieghorst and Craig Burley to swing the game back again and secure a 6–3 win on the night (6–5 on aggregate). It wasn’t the cleanest performance, but it was edge-of-your-seat stuff from start to finish. Watch the full 90 minutes now only on Celtic TV.
