Ghirls get back to winning ways on return to action

SWPL Friday, October 31, 2025New Douglas Park HAMILTON ACCIES…0 CELTIC…3 (Noonan 4, McAneny 29, Robertson 50’)   Celtic FC Women marked their return to action by getting back to winning ways on Friday evening with a 3-0 win over Hamilton Accies. First half goals from Saoirse Noonan and Maria McAneny, were followed by a header from Lisa Robertson to seal all three points from the Hoops. Following the conclusion of the first international break of the season, the Ghirls were quickly back into league duties. Elena Sadiku’s side faced off against Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park in the reverse fixture, which was on this occasion an away match. The Hoops came into this one looking to get back to winning ways following defeat to Glasgow City last time out. And they made the perfect start, with Saoirse Noonan opening the scoring inside five minutes. Breaking down the right-hand side, Amy Gallacher looked to find the forward with the cross, but her delivery was cleared by the defender. That clearance only found its way as far as Jenny Smith, who put the ball back into the danger area, into the path of Noonan, who struck home from close range to give Celtic the advantage. It was a dominant performance from the Hoops, with plenty of chances created in front of goal. Morgan Cross almost found the back of the net just ten minutes after the opener, finding herself through, one-on-one, but her strike was well saved by the goalkeeper. The second goal did finally fall Celtic’s way as Maria McAneny smashed home her fifth goal of the campaign. It was a bullet header from the midfielder, who converted Morgan Cross’ delivery into the area, to double the Ghirls’ advantage. With the second half getting underway, the Hoops made a similar fast start, scoring just five minutes into the half. This time, it was a first of the season from Lisa Robertson, who was on hand at the front post to head home Maria McAneny’s corner. The Ghirls continued to push for more, with plenty of action on the Hamilton goal in the second 45 minutes. Adelaide Gay, who was making her first league start for the Hoops, was also commanding her area well, marking that occasion with another clean sheet. Noonan came close to doubling her scoring tally for the night, seeing a header come off the top of the crossbar. Whilst in the dying moments, Amy Gallacher also seen a powerful volley held by the Hamilton shot-stopper, denying her a goal. Ultimately, the Ghirls couldn’t grab another goal, but it was a good way to mark their return to action, with three points following the international break. There is a slight break from league duties once more over the coming week, as the Hoops welcome Queen’s Park to New Doulgas Park in the quarter-finals of the Sky Sports Cup.FixturesHamilton Academical Women Vs.
