Ghirls mark return to league action with win over Aberdeen

SPWPL Sunday, November 23, 2025New Douglas Park CELTIC…4 (Noonan 3, 22, Lawton 11, Gallacher 59) ABERDEEN…0 Celtic FC Women marked their return to league duties with an emphatic victory over Aberdeen, running out 4-0 winners on Sunday afternoon. Having stormed into a three goal lead at the break thanks for strikes by Saoirse Noonan and Emma Lawton, it was a comfortable performance from the Hoops. Amy Gallacher rounded the scoring off in the second half, scoring the fourth and final goal of the game as the Ghirls sealed all three points. Following a dominant win over Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup last week, this Sunday marked a return to SPWPL action for Elena Sadiku’s side. The Celtic boss named three changes to the side, which seen Lisa Rodgers return between the sticks, whilst Jenny Smith and Claire Walsh also returned. There was a second consecutive start for Darra Dawson, who just the week previous made her first start of the campaign. Right from the off, it was another dominant display from the Hoops, and that was marked by a very early goal. Saoirse Noonan got Celtic up and running just three minutes into the match, scoring the Ghirls’ early opener. The Irish striker was on hand to head home Lisa Robertson’s inch perfect cross, to fire the Celtis ahead in the match. It didn’t take long for Celtic to add to that advantage either as Emma Lawton got in on the act with a first half strike. Following a neatly worked move down the right, it was the full-back who was on hand to score, producing a superbly taken finish into the far corner from Jenny Smith’s low delivery. With Noonan on red hot form in front of goal, the forwarded added a second just 22 minutes into the match. Another dangerous delivery into the box was this time controlled by the striker, who took time to compose herself before slotting home. It was wave of attacks coming Aberdeen’s way, and Noonan almost completed what would have been her second hat-trick in as many games. A superb cross from Darra Dawson on the left was met by the forward, who seen her effort well saved by the goalkeeper. It was a strong fast half showing from the Hoops, who went in at half-time three goals ahead. And they came out with the same attacking intent as Dawson seen an early effort saved from distance. Despite enjoying large spells of the ball, there was a slight dip in the performance, with the Hoops having all but sealed the three points. That was made sure of by Amy Gallacher, who scored a fourth just before the hour mark. Following some unselfish play by Noonan just outside the area, her forward pass found the run of Gallacher. Remaining composed, the Celtic number seven who celebrates her 27th birthday on Sunday, produced a tidy finish to make it four. The Celts were able to make changes in the second half, with Chloe Craig continuing to up her game time with 20 minutes in the second half. Another substitute in Sienna McGoldrick came close to adding to the scoring, latching onto Emma Lawton’s delivery into the box, but she couldn’t turn it home. Ultimately, that would be that for the Hoops, with all three points secured. The Ghirls will be aiming to round the year off strong as they travel to face Hibernian in their final game of 2025 before the winter break next Sunday.FixturesCeltic Women Vs.
