Ghirls return to winning ways with victory over Partick Thistle

SWPL Sunday, November 23, 2025New Douglas Park CELTIC… (Gallacher 27, McAneny 30) PARTICK THISTLE…0   Celtic FC Women returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon, running out 2-0 winners against Partick Thistle. Two quick-fire first half strikes from Amy Gallacher and Maria McAneny, sealed all three points for the Ghirls heading into the international break. Following on from a narrow defeat at Ibrox last time out, the Hoops returned home to New Douglas Park. Elena Sadiku named an unchanged side from last Friday evening, which was welcome news, with Morgan Cross recovering from injury having come off in the first half last week. It was another dominant display from the Hoops, but one they had to be patient, with a new-look Partick Thistle led by Gary Holt aiming to frustrate. The away side remained resolute during the first half hour of the match, with the Celts looking to cause trouble down either wing. The first chance of the game fell the way of Emma Lawton, who seen her shot go past the post after latching on to a loose ball on the edge. Moments later, more good work from McAneny down the left-hand side created an opportunity for Saoirse Noonan. As the forward looked to get her head on the effort, she just couldn’t quite connect, seeing the ball go beyond goal. With the Hoops continuing to dictate possession, the opening goal did finally come on 27 minutes as Amy Gallacher grabbed her 6th goal of the campaign. After keeping possession well, Lisa Robertson picked out an inch perfect pass in behind to the Celtic number seven. Running through one-on-one, Gallacher remained composed, tucking the ball beyond the on-rushing Thistle shot-stopper. With one goal under their belts, it didn’t take long for the Ghirls to double their advantage, this time through Maria McAneny. With a pass being fired into her path, the midfielder took a superb first touch to get beyond her marker, creating space for a shot. Having seen her initial effort saved, McAneny reacted quickly to get another strike off, which on this occasion found the net to make the score 2-0. The Ghirls were pushing for more in the opening 45 minutes as Noonan came close to getting herself on the scoresheet for the ninth consecutive match. After meeting a ball across the box from Robertson, the striker couldn’t quite connect fully, but still seen the effort come off the outside of the post. Taking their two goal advantage into the second half, the Ghirls continued to be dominant, but couldn’t find their way to goal and add to the tally. Lisa Robertson came close on two occasions, with the best opportunity being a glancing header, which went just narrowly wide of the post. Noonan also came close once again in the second half, taking a powerful effort on the edge, which appeared to be goal bound. However, it was too central and well claimed by the goalkeeper, who held on to keep the score 2-0. All that mattered though was sealing the three points, and those two goals made sure of that as the Ghirls returned to winning ways. The Hoops now head into the international break, with a number of players joining up with their nations, before returning on December 7 for the Celts’ next outing back at New Douglas Park.FixturesCeltic Women Vs.
