Grant Scott: It was a really important win against Hibs

Grant Scott got off to the ideal start as Head Coach of Celtic FC Women, picking up his first victory as boss on Sunday afternoon. The Ghirls booked their place in the next round of the Scottish Cup with a 3-2 win over Hibernian in the new manager’s first match in charge since taking over. After getting his work underway last week, Scott took to the Celtic dugout for the first time against his former side in the Scottish Cup 4th Round tie. And it proved to be a successful afternoon for the Hoops, with Emma Lawton, Morgan Cross and Maria McAneny getting on the scoresheet to seal the win. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, although there were some aspects of the performance Scott insists his squad will look to work on, there was certainly a lot of positive to take away from the Ghirls’ display. He said: “It was a really important win. We are here to get into the next round, and I said to the players beforehand, however we manage to do it that is the objective. ‘They’ve done that. I thought there was some really good stuff, particularly in the first half.’ “Hibs gave us a lot of things to think about in the early period, but we overcame that, got ourselves in front and I thought we played a lot of the game in their half. “I’d maybe like a bit more control from the team in different moments and obviously it’s a bit of a sloppy start in the second half. “But we managed to get our noises in front again and showed a lot of character and determination to see it out. “So, overall it was about getting through. There was lots of good points, but also stuff to work on too.”With the first match now out the way, it was certainly the ideal way to kick things off for Scott and his Celtic squad. Having picked up another victory on their return from the winter break, the action keeps on coming for the Hoops as they return to league duties next weekend against Motherwell. Scott believes there is plenty to build upon from what was a strong first display under the new Head Coach as he praised the supporters for their part to play. “There is plenty to build on. There was some really good stuff, particularly in the first half. “We heard the supporters really getting behind the girls. I think they saw a lot of energy and forward momentum from them. ‘There was a lot of hunger to go and try make things happen in the opposition half.’ “That bodes well for us going forward. So, there is lots of good points and ultimately winning matches is a great habit. “Whether that is cup or league, the momentum that builds and breeds confidence in the group. It gives that belief. “So, we’ll look to just push on from this one now.”FixturesHibernian Women Vs. Celtic FC Women – Sun, Jan 11th 2026, 13:00
