Having booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup last weekend, it will be another first for Grant Scott this week as he gets set to take charge in the league for the first time on Sunday. The Ghirls make the short trip to East Kilbride to take on Motherwell at K Park in their first league outing of 2026. After getting things underway with Celtic last week, it has been a busy period for the new boss, who also checked off his first win in the capital on Sunday. Speaking to Celtic TV to preview this weekend’s trip to face Motherwell, Scott looked back at what was a pleasing first result. Although there was aspects of the performance the Hoops boss will be looking for his squad to improve upon, he was delighted to see them achieve the main aim of reaching the next round of the cup. He said: “I think the most pleasing thing was ultimately the result. There were good spells in the game, and lots of little bits of information that the players have taken on from last week. “We maybe fell off it a little bit, and there were a few moments where we made life difficult, with our retention of the ball. “We’ve been honest with each other. It’s always good to get that first game out the way and get the win. “Staying in the cup too, that was the most important thing on the day. So, we’re looking forward to the next game now too.” ‘We want to compete as deep into competitions as we can. Ultimately, we are here to win competitions.’ “We want to start performing really well consistently. So, it’s always pleasing to be in the draw. “We have another tough opponent away now in that too. If we’re going to do well in the cup, it’s going to be the hard way for sure.”Following on from his side’s victory in the five-goal thriller, the manager was quickly back to work at Barrowfield. Scott and his squad have been preparing for their first league fixture of the year as he continues to settle in to life at Celtic. With that feeling growing as the weeks go on, he is now looking for his side to go and produce another positive performance against Motherwell on Sunday. “The second week has certainly felt more comfortable,” he said. “I think in the first week, there is no denying that you are getting to know people. “The understanding how the work has been before I arrived, before playing against your old team right away. “It’s felt more comfortable since then. But we’ve been drip feeding in slight tweaks of information ‘So, it’s been another good week and I’m looking for the players to push on now.’ “We want them to pick up the little bits of information we are trying to give and put in more consistent performances. “Motherwell will be another tough test. They are themselves under new management as well. “So, I’m sure there will be changes in their game. I think they have only played once under the new management. “So that can make it quite difficult to unpick them. But if we play to our strengths, we are looking to overcome Motherwell in the game. “But at the same time, we know there will be a lot of resistance there. They have players who have played around the league a long time. “So, we have to be very wary of a new opponent, under new management. “We’ll look to dominate when we can, take our chances when we can. But we must keep them out first.“FixturesMotherwell Women Vs. Celtic Women – Sun, Jan 18th 2026, 16:00
