With the Ghirls gearing up to kick off their first match of the New Year, it is set to be an exciting one as they travel to the capital. Hibernian are the opponents who lie in wait for Celtic FC Women in a Fourth-Round tie of the Scottish Gas Women’s Scottish Cup. Of course, it wasn’t too long ago that the two teams last faced off. In fact, it was both sides’ previous match – the final fixture before the winter break. It was Celtic who ran out winners that day, with Maria McAneny scoring a wonder strike from the half way line just four seconds into the match. The Celts were pegged back in the first half, but Saoirse Noonan’s close-range finish sealed all three points at Meadowbank. Although the fixture only took place at the end of last month, there is of course change in both camps, with Grant Scott now taking charge of the Ghirls. Sunday’s match will be the first in charge for the new Celtic Head Coach, coming up against his old side in Leith. The manager spoke earlier this week in his first interview with Celtic TV, and also looked ahead to Sunday’s match as the Hoops look to try and book their place in the quarter-finals. He said: “Having just left them, Hibs are a very good side and we know that. I’m not sure there is an advantage with me coming here or not because they are still very difficult to unpick. “The team managed to succeed in the last fixture. That will offer no guarantees now that we’re playing Hibs again. ‘We will have to go and do it all again. But it’s an exciting one.’ “We were speaking about it, I don’t know if it’s best to have this game the first game or have ten games before facing Hibs again. “But look, it gets it out the way – I’ve obviously still got that fondness for Hibs and the team there. “But I’m here now. Our job at the weekend is to try and overcome that challenge and win the match. “So, I’m looking forward to it just like any other game.” Watch Grant Scott’s first interview as Celtic FC Women manager First week in charge Meeting fresh and familiar faces in the squad Getting to work on the training ground Barrowfield The Celtic support Plus more FixturesHibernian Women Vs.
