Grant Scott: The players’ application was magnificent

Celtic FC Women rounded off a busy month of February with three points, running out 5-3 winners over Hearts on Sunday afternoon. The Hoops came out on top in an eight-goal thriller at New Douglas Park, with Saoirse Noonan grabbing a hat-trick, whilst Tara O’Hanlon also added her first goal for the club, alongside Morgan Cross’ second half strike. It was a pleasing way for Grant Scott’s side to round off their fourth fixture of the month, all of which have come against the current top four sides in the league. Speaking to Celtic TV to reflect on the match, Scott insisted it was an important three points, whilst praising the application of his squad’s performance. He said: “It was a very good three points first and foremost. I thought we were clinical when the chances came. “We had a couple of clearer opportunities as well, I think their goalkeeper has done well in the game. ‘I thought we looked really exciting going forward. Exactly what I want from the team.’ “But we don’t want to keep conceding these goals. I think if we needed anything to keep us grounded, it’s those moments where we are maybe handing opportunities to opposition. “But look, it was another tough opponent as they were last week too. And we’ve been able to knock them over. “So, fair play to the players. I thought their application was magnificent and I’m delighted with the three points.”While there are aspects Scott will look for his squad to continue improving upon, there was also plenty for the Celtic boss to be pleased with. In particular, the attacking intent of his squad was one thing that pleased Scott, with the Ghirls coming away with five goals on Sunday. As we head into the first international break of 2026, that was a huge positive for the Celts, who will now next be in action in the middle of next month. “I ask the team to play how I want to watch football,” he said “We have to be sensible without the ball; you have to be hard working. “But when we go forward, that’s the players’ chance to go and express themselves. “To make the moves, carry the ball and execute the chances which come under their own steam. ‘I’m loving watching their work and play just now. So long may it continue.’ “It’s always good to head into the break with three points. It’s a tough one if you have a defeat, and then half your squad is away. “There is still a bit of work for us to do. But I think going into the break with a positive result like this, it makes the work of the next couple of weeks much easier.”FixturesCeltic Women Vs. Hearts Women – Sun, Feb 22nd 2026, 16:10
