The beginning of 2026 marked a new era for the Celtic FC Women’s squad as Grant Scott took charge of the Ghirls. December 20 saw the Hoops round the year off on a high with victory over Hibernian before the winter break, but also the end of a tenure in the dugout. After almost two years in charge, Elena Sadiku stepped aside, being replaced by Scott, who has experience across the Scottish game. His most recent club was Hibs, where he helped lift the SWPL title last campaign, creating more history with the Leith side where he has enjoyed much success. However, it was the beginning of a new era for Grant Scott and Celtic as he officially started his role earlier this week. Speaking to Celtic TV the new Head Coach sat down for his first exclusive interview, revealing his exactment at taking on the role. Having faced off against Celtic on a number of occasions over the years, Scott is now thrilled to be leading the Hoops into the next stage. He said: “I’m very honoured to be here. Obviously, it’s a massive football club. Our department on the Women’s side is a key component of it going forward. ‘So, I’m very honoured and privileged to be here.’ “It’s been fairly hectic. Obviously, there has been a lot of new faces and getting to know people, getting to know their ways. “I think I’ve tried to do it in a sensibly approached way; we don’t reinvent things. That is really what I’ve focused on this week. A bit of getting to know the players, the staff and making sure everyone knows that their position is valued. “I’m very much a team-based manager. It’s about more than me or more than the players, it’s also all the backroom staff and everyone’s got to do their function to the absolute best they can to the highest quality that they can. “And that is really hopefully where I’ll lead the team, if they are not there already. So, it’s been a lot of that this week and finding out what the methods were or any changes I want to make.”Of course, there are plenty of new faces which Grant Scott will now take charge of after getting his time in charge underway. However, there are also some familiar names among the squad including Amy Gallacher, Shannon McGregor and Lisa Robertson, who he worked with at Hibs. During his short spell south of the border, Scott also worked with striker Saoirse Noonan at Durham, so there are some faces who will be familiar with his work. Scott insisted it is good to have a mix of fresh and familiar faces as he gets started at Barrowfield. The new Head Coach also spoke about the importance of the Celtic support, who he hopes will continue to have a big part to play going forward. “There are obviously a few players in there that I’ve worked with before at different clubs and you can instantly step in, they’ll know your level of humour or relaxation points or work that you are after,” he said. “So yeah, it does help to have a few in there and hopefully they are happy to see me as well! It’s nice and welcoming when you see familiar ones. ‘I feel they are one of the best followed and supported teams in the women’s league at the moment.’ “I think we can get their backing more and more, give them something to shout about on the pitch. “I like a style of play that I’ve spoken to the players about this week, which I’m going to try to implement and give them the freedom to play that way, be exciting and give the fans something to shout about. “When it gets to the nitty gritty and the momentum swings in the games, if the fans can get behind us it will be my aim to give them some kind of reward at the end of it and we need everyone onside.” Watch Grant Scott’s first full interview as Head Coach of Celtic FC Women over on YouTube.FixturesHibernian Women Vs.
