Premier Sports Cup finalSunday, December 14, 2025Hampden Park, Glasgow CELTIC… 1(Hatate 23) ST MIRREN… 3(Fraser 2, Ayunga 64 & 76) It was a day of disappointment at Hampden for Celtic as they lost 3-1 to St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup final at Hampden. Celtic got off to the worst possible start when they conceded a goal after just two minutes. A corner swung into the box was headed home by St Mirren captain, Marcus Fraser, to make it 1-0 to the Paisley side. And just three minutes later, Conor McMenamin had a left-footed shot saved by Kasper Schmeichel. Celtic’s first chance came in the 10th minute and it took a super save from Shamal George to deny Kelechi Iheanacho, whose header looked bound for the net. Five minutes later and St Mirren spurned a great chance to double their lead when Dan Nlundulu steered the ball just wide the post, and they were left to rue that missed opportunity just under 10 minutes later when Reo Hatate guided home a Kieran Tierney cross at the back post for the equaliser. Celtic were now dominating the game in terms of possession but the Hoops suffered a blow with 10 minutes of the half when Iheanacho was forced off after pulling up with what seemed to be a problem with his hamstring. The start of the second half saw St Mirren on the front foot again, looking to test the Celtic backline from set-pieces, and on 57 minutes Kasper Schmeichel had to be alert to save an Nlundulu shot. But on 64 minutes St Mirren did retake the lead when Jonah Ayunga headed home an Alex Gogic cross from eight yards out And the same player made it 3-1 to Celtic on 76 minutes. A ball over the top found Declan John who surged into the box before squaring it to Ayungu, who knocked it beyond Schmeichel and into the net. Colby Donovan, on as a replacement for the injured Anthony Ralston, came close with a low shot from the edge of the area which was pushed round the post. St Mirren almost scored a fourth with a counter-attack in the last minute, but Kasper Schmeichel saved the shot from Evan Mooney. Luke McCowan’s free-kick from 25 yards out in added time went narrowly over, while Johnny Kenny had an effort from the edge of the box tipped over the bar, but on the day it was St Mirren who triumphed at Hampden to lift the Premier Sports Cup.
