“I Was There”: A Daughter, A Father, A Final – Maura McColgan On Experiencing Celtic’s Finest Hour

Celtic’s finest hour, as we all know, came on that sun-drenched afternoon in Lisbon on May 25th, 1967. Over the years, we’ve all heard the tales of that historic day — how Jock Stein’s men stood toe to toe with the mighty Inter Milan, and how they roared back from a goal down to claim the biggest prize in European football. But imagine being able to say: “I was there.” Inspired by club historian and author Pat Woods, our new Celtic Exchange series brings you the voices of the lucky ones who made it to Lisbon, sharing their memories in their own words. In this episode, we’re joined by Maura McColgan, who relives her unforgettable journey alongside her father — himself a former Celt — as they travelled from Glasgow to Portugal. From the excitement of the trip, to the electric atmosphere inside the stadium, and the sheer joy when the final whistle blew it’s all here in this very special episode. ———————————————- 🏆 If you, or someone you know, were in Lisbon that day, get in touch — your story could feature in a future episode of “I Was There.” 📧 Email: [email protected]
