Jenny Smith: We want to kick off return to action with a win

The Celtic FC Women’s squad are looking forward to a return to action this Friday night (October 31) when they take on Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park (KO: 8pm). And that eagerness to get back out on the pitch is perhaps most keenly felt by Jenny Smith, who enjoyed her first minutes of the season in the recent top-of-the-table clash with Glasgow City. The midfielder has had to endure an injury-hit start to the campaign, but having now returned to action she’s keen to play her part in the weeks and months ahead. Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of Friday night’s SPWPL game, Jenny Smith said: “It was just good to be back. I’ve been out for quite a while now and I didn’t expect to be out for that long, so it’s just good to be back with the team and get some minutes. ‘The last two weeks have been really intense, especially this week with players coming back from internationals, and it’s been really good.’ “It’s always nice to come back because you don’t want to be injured, and just being able to get the full training back and a couple of minutes in the last game have been good. “I picked up an injury during pre-season and then got another one coming back, so it’s been a bit up and down, so it’s nice to be back and around the environment and fully back training.”Friday night’s match against Hamilton Accies kicks off the second round of SPWPL fixtures, and Elena Sadiku’s side will be looking to replicate their previous meeting with Hamilton when they won 5-0 in what was a home game for the Hoops at New Douglas Park. And while this week’s encounter is technically an away game for Celtic, it will still be in familiar surroundings. The aim, of course, is to take all three points and close the gap at the top of the table, and Jenny Smith is hoping to contribute to that. “I think Hamilton will be pretty good defensively and hard to break down,” she said, “but we’ve got over it in training, so we know how to break that down. “Everyone’s buzzing this week, especially with everyone coming back, and we’re all ready to go and get back out on the pitch. “We obviously reflected over the first round that we’ve had and we know what we need to do to be better, so we’re ready.”Upcoming FixturesHamilton Academical Women Vs.
