When Scotland defeated Denmark 4-2 last month to secure qualification for the World Cup 2026 tournament, former Celtic and Scotland captain, Scott Brown and his brother, Stewart, decided that this offered the perfect opportunity to take on a personal challenge and raise funds for causes close to their hearts. Scott and Stewart have set themselves the challenge of walking, running and/or cycling 1,000 miles between now and the beginning of the World Cup, on Thursday, June 11, 2026. Through their efforts, they have chosen to support Celtic FC Foundation and a donation will also be made to DEBRA Scotland. And they’d love to see supporters get involved and join them on the challenge by either completing their own 500 or 1,000 miles. Speaking of the challenge, Scott said: “We’re wishing the Scotland lads all the best and hope they soak up the experience and have the best time… and of course, bring back the World Cup if they could! “I’ll be cheering them on all the way whilst raising money for our charities. Celtic FC Foundation and DEBRA Scotland are both such incredible organisations and we’re thrilled to be able to do our part and help where we can. It’d be great to see lots of supporters join us for the journey and help make every mile matter.” Stewart added: “With Scotland qualifying for the World Cup, we wanted to mark this historic achievement in a way that felt truly Scottish. “Inspired by The Proclaimers’ famous anthem, we thought, if they can walk 500 miles and 500 more, why can’t we? Just as the Tartan Army would travel any distance to support the lads and watch their games, we’re committing to 1,000 miles in honour of Scotland and their achievements. “This challenge is about more than football. It’s also a way for us to stay active through the winter months, when the dark nights make it all too easy to sit on the couch. “As we’re both getting older, we know how important it is to keep moving, not just for our physical health, but for our mental wellbeing too. Covering these miles gives us purpose, keeps us fit and lifts our spirits. And through our efforts we’re aiming to raise money for two wonderful charities, to support the amazing work that they do.” You can support Scott and Stewart’s efforts and follow their progress HERE. Or if you’d like to register to join in and take on your own 500 Miles and 500 More challenge, you can sign up to take part free of charge HERE and we’ll provide you with information on how to set up your Just Giving fundraising page, including instruction on how to connect a Strava account, should you wish to. All we ask is that you commit to raising a minimum of £135 in sponsorship. Terms and conditions apply. Thank you for your wonderful support.
