Kelly Clark: I can’t wait for Celtic Park Flag Day

Celtic Women’s captain Kelly Clark says that she can’t wait to make more history when she leads the team out for the first ever SWPL Flag Day at Celtic Park tomorrow (Saturday). Clark spoke to the media ahead of this weekend’s league opener and she says that there will be a celebratory atmosphere at Celtic Park when they take on Dundee United tomorrow afternoon. “I can’t wait for tomorrow,” she said. “It almost feels like an extended celebration with the fans, which is important. “I’m so proud that we’re the first to do a Flag Day and I just really can’t wait to be walking out at Celtic Park again. ‘We’ll do our very best to be the best version of ourselves and put on a performance that the fans can enjoy.’ “I’m pretty sure a lot of the fans felt stressed on the last day of the season before we scored that winner in the 89th minute. “Tomorrow’s a chance to come and hopefully watch some good football in a much less stressful environment!”The SWPL champions recently returned from a pre-season tour of Sweden where they faced Djugarden and Hammarby as their preparations for the upcoming season intensified, and Clark says that their trip was vital in helping the new additions to the squad to settle in. Speaking about their pre-season work, Clark said: “Getting to know the new players on and off the pitch, I think that’s really important and one of the things that helped us to be really successful last year. “The key learning is how we play together on the pitch, them fitting in to our system, us adapting to their strengths and really making sure that we’re ready to go for tomorrow.“There’s no easy game and we’re going in with no complacency. We’re champions but we have a job to do and it starts tomorrow.”Clark became the first Celtic Women’s captain to lift the league title back in May, and ahead of her team’s defence of the title this season, the skipper says that wearing the armband is a point of pride which only continues to grow.“I get prouder every season to lead the squad,” she said. “And obviously this year, leading them out as defending champions is something that I probably never expected before the last couple of years. “It’s a massive honour, it’s a massive club and I love representing them on and off the pitch. “To lead a group of girls you genuinely like as people before the fact that you love playing with them as professionals, it means a lot.” More on the game Celtic FC Women’s historic Flag Day: Your Matchday Guide –
