Late goal sees Celtic share the points against Glasgow City

ScottishPower Women’s Premier LeagueWednesday, March 18 2026New Douglas Park CELTIC…1 (Noonan 56) GLASGOW CITY…1 (Wrobel 81)   Celtic FC Women were held to a 1-1 draw for the second consecutive match as they took away a point against Glasgow City. Saoirse Noonan’s second half header handed the Ghirls a well-deserved lead after a positive performance against the league leaders. But a late goal from Natalia Wróbel meant that the points would be shared once more at New Douglas Park. Fresh off the back of returning to action last weekend, it was a quick-fire return once more as Grant Scott’s side welcomed Glasgow City. The Celtic boss made three changes to his side that faced Hibernian last weekend, bringing Momo Nakao, Maria McAneny and Poppy Pritchard into the side, replacing Maddi Wilde, Evie Rabjohn and Saoirse Noonan. As the action kicked-off, it was Celtic who looked threatening going forward as they looked to try and test the Glasgow City goalkeeper in the opening stages. Maria McAneny was first to do so as the Hoops broke forward at pace. Emma Westin’s pass found the winger out wide. Standing up her marker, the midfielder looked to deliver a ball into the box, but she can’t only find the hands of the City goalkeeper. The Hoops had to be wary of the threats the away side posed, with a series of corners for the Celts being countered by the Glasgow City frontline. However, Grant Scott’s side were doing well to fend off any threats. Celtic were forced into an early change in the match, with Emma Westin being replaced due to injury by Saoirse Noonan. Glasgow City looked to take advantage in the slight shift by the Hoops, with some chances towards the end of the half. But once again, those were dealt with by the Celtic backline. Heading into the second half, Celtic came out strong, and almost opened the scoring seven minutes in. Maria McAneny found the run of Emma Lawton with a clever pass in behind. As the full-back latched onto the ball, Lee Gibson was off her line quick to rush out and deny Lawton, with the ball bouncing off the defender and going out for a goal kick. At the beginning of the half, the Hoops were enjoying a strong period of sustained attacks and would have been looking to take advantage. That did finally come on 56 minutes as substitute Saoirse Noonan headed home the opening goal of the game. A pin-point delivery on the right-hand side by Emma Lawton found the run of the striker, who bulleted home a superb header to fire Celtic in front just before the hour mark. It was no more than Celtic deserved after a positive opening to the second half, and they looked to push on and find a second. Some positive work from Poppy Pritchard almost allowed the forward to fashion an opening, having originally gotten away from a marker. However, a good last-ditch tackle denied the Manchester City loanee. With the game heading towards the closing stages, the Ghirls were looking to see things out to take home three points. However, they were hit with a late blow as Natalie Wrobel’s cross-turned-shot found the back of the net to level up the scoring with only nine minutes remaining in the match. It was a frustrating one to take for the Hoops given the positive performance put in on the night at New Douglas Park. Grant Scott and his side were looking to keep moving forward, with another quick-fire return to action as they take on Partick Thistle on Sunday.FixturesCeltic Women Vs.
