With the Celtic FC Women’s team kicking off the 2025/26 season campaign on Sunday, this weekend will be one of returns for midfielder Lisa Robertson. Of course, having rejoined the Hoops this summer, the experienced midfielder will be making her second debut as a Celtic player. And she will also be returning to her former club, having spent last season playing with Hearts. After a busy few weeks of pre-season, Robertson is now back and fully integrated as part of the Celtic squad, and she reflected on what has been a case of slotting back into the way of things at Paradise as she opened up on how pre-season has gone for her. She said: “It has felt quite natural just slotting back in to being a Celtic player. The girls have welcomed me back with opening arms, which is pleasing. “Then even the new girls, I feel like I knew quite a few of them already. So coming back in has been quite an easy transition because everyone has made it like that for me. ‘That just shows how good this squad is, and we are very together already.’ “I think fitting into a new squad is one of the most important things. It’s important to find your feet and building new connections. “Obviously, it’s the same club I’ve been at before, but some things might be different like the way of playing or different people around the place. “So it’s important to find new connections and kick off where we left off in order to keep improving.” What has helped Robertson and the entire Celtic squad with their preparations was the recent trip to Newcastle, which saw the Ghirls spent seven days south of the border. For the experienced midfielder, the time to continue the pre-season work on the pitch was vital, but just as important was the time to bond which the squad had off the pitch. Although there are players in the side she has known for several years, Robertson admitted she still continues to learn, which can only be a positive and help the Ghirls on the pitch too. The Celtic midfielder already believes that they have started to see how much that has helped, with their togetherness as a group. “The trip to Newcastle was a great time for the squad,” she said. “I think it’s really important for a squad to have some time together, on and off the pitch. “The more time you have off the pitch, I feel like you become a better squad on the pitch. Obviously, it’s important to learn about each other as people, not just as players. “You get to know your team-mate as a player and a person. It helps bring the best out of each other on a Sunday. So I feel like that time in Newcastle has been so valuable. ‘Even on the camp, there are team-mates who I have known before, but I am still learning things about them.’ “The more time you spend together, obviously that encourages each other to speak more and get to know each other. “So then when you go on to the pitch, it’s even better knowing how to get the best out of each other because you know them more as a person, which brings the best out of the player.” Join the Journey – Season Tickets avaliable now As Lisa Robertson gets set to kick-off her second spell as a Celtic player, the midfielder is raring to go in green and white.
