Luke McCowan’s football affiliations are well-known – he’s a Celtic fan, born and bred, and delighted to be playing for his club. But the midfielder is not sitting back and basking in the glow of being a Celtic player. Instead, the 27-year-old is working hard every single day in order to ensure that he gets the most out of every second he’s at the club. And he is always ready to play his part for the team, whether that’s as a starter or as a substitute. So long as he can help Celtic win then he’s happy. McCowan has started the last two games – home wins over St Mirren and Dundee United respectively – and is pleased that those victories have given the Hoops a 15-point lead at the top of the Premiership table. Attention now turns to this weekend’s league match away to Ross County – the fourth of nine games that Brendan Rodgers’ side will play in January – and, as always, McCowan will be prepared to do what he can to ensure another positive result. Speaking at Lennoxtown today, the midfielder said: “The way the whole culture works here is that the next game is as important as the last one and you just need to keep going that way. “The more you do that, the most important thing which comes is your performances. I think I’ve been effective within the team but I’m always going try and ask a bit more of myself and get more goals and assists. “But it’s about results and helping the team, and that’s the most important thing. Then the numbers come after it.”There is fierce competition for places throughout the squad, and in midfield there are three places up for grabs between Callum McGregor, Arne Engels, Reo Hatate, Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan. That is something which McCowan relishes, and he believes that training and playing alongside these players only serves to improve him. “I’m learning off great guys, international players, and for me it’s unbelievable,” he said. “So I just need to keep doing it. “You make each other better, therefore, performances get better on the pitch, so that’s the main thing. And all the guys that I’m playing with or I’m up against at training have been unreal, so I just need to continue that. ‘It’s been everything I expected and more (move to Celtic), but I don’t really want to think about it too much.’ “When my career’s over I’ll pat myself on the back and say ‘well done’, but just now it’s about working hard, trying to get in the team and making sure I stay there. “Because of the amount of games we’ve got, you hope that you’re going to play minutes, whether from the bench or starting. So it’s something I look forward to and I’d rather be playing games than training.”Upcoming FixturesRoss County Vs. Celtic – Tue, Jan 1st 2025, 20:00
