Celtic will very quickly have to put the disappointment of Thursday night’s Europa League defeat to FC Midtjylland behind them with another game looming on the horizon. That comes in the shape of a league match at home to Kilmarnock this Sunday (KO: 4pm), and Martin O’Neill wants to see the team maintain their recent impressive domestic form, having beaten Falkirk in the Premiership followed by victory over Rangers in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden last weekend. And regardless of how results have gone or will go, Martin O’Neill is only focused on the next game, knowing his position as interim manager is just that. Speaking to the media at Lennoxtown today, the Irishman said: “It was a disappointing night (against FC Midtjylland) and a difficult game for us. In the second half we showed some resilience, but it was a tough evening. “My situation remains the same. The minute the board will say to me they’ve got someone in place, I’m absolutely fine with that. That was always the intention in the first place so that (Euro defeat) doesn’t alter anything. “I knew these games would be very hard when Dermot called me. I had a look at the schedule and thought, that’s four games in very quick succession – a game away from home in the Europa League and the matches here – so my focus is genuinely just on Sunday now. “Looking down at the fixtures again, there’s no respite here between now and probably the end of January, so you’re playing weekends and midweek. It’s relentless, so you need a big squad to cope with that.”As for any thoughts on his own Celtic legacy, and whether the current situation will have any impact on how his previous tenure is viewed, Martin O’Neill said: “I honestly have no concern about a legacy – I never have had. If you’re talking about legacy, then you can talk about Jock Stein and that great 1967 side. “So I’m not wildly worried about a legacy losing some games. We had a great victory over Rangers and that’s fine, but I’ve very aware that it’s one game at a time. “If Sunday was to be my last game, that is absolutely fine with me and if they announced a new manager on Monday or Tuesday morning, that’s fine. “Getting back to the thoughts on legacy, it really wouldn’t bother me. But do you know was delighted me, though, we did beat Rangers so I can always mark that down.” Watch the manager’s full press conference Bouncing back from Euro defeat Squad update Reflections on his position More on the game Keep up with the matchday action: Match Centre Celtic FC Quiz: Celtic v Kilmarnock Auston Trusty looking to bounce back against Kilmarnock –
