Brendan Rodgers was delighted with his side’s impressive 4-1 victory over Chelsea in South Bend on Saturday as the Hoops’ pre-season tour came to an end. The Scottish champions followed up their 4-3 victory over Manchester City on Wednesday with another good performance and result at the weekend, and, speaking after the match, the Celtic boss reflected on a positive pre-season tour for his side. Brendan said: “I’ve just said to the players, all the work that they’ve done and how they’ve represented the club in their time here has been absolutely brilliant, so I take great pride in that.“But also on the pitch, how we’ve played, how we’ve devoted our mindset to the work and the intensity of game. Big teams don’t want to lose games, whether it’s pre-season or not. ‘I think on the performance, we had what you’d want from a top team. Structure, talent and work. That gives you a great chance.’ “Across the board, I’m really happy with the performance, and when the younger guys came in to the game, there was no difference. “They pressed the game, they harassed the opponent and then showed real quality when we had the ball.”Aswell as providing a chance to prepare for the season ahead, the Celts’ trip to the States has also provided an opportunity for the Celtic faithful in the USA to see their heroes train and play live, something that Brendan says has been an important aspect of the tour.“Everywhere we’ve been, our supporters have been absolutely magnificent,” he said. “They are the difference. “These are guys who have to get up early in the morning to watch our games back home. “So to be able to take the team here and they can feel the shirt close by and watch the team live, I think they’ll have enjoyed the three games. “We’re in a really good place, we’ll get back safely and prepare for flag day. “We still have another good week’s work before we arrive in to there, but I think this preparation over the last 12 days has gone as well as it possibly could have done.”
