Sunday’s win over Montrose proved to be a special day for Maria McAneny, who not only netted the only goal of the game, but was also celebrating her 100th appearance. The Celtic Academy graduate took to the starting line-up, hitting a landmark appearance at just 21-years-old. But for the midfielder, it was all focus on the task at hand, playing her part in the 1-0 win at New Douglas Park. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, McAneny reflected on the Ghirls’ performance, insisting they could have scored more from their chances. However, the most important thing for the Hoops was to take away all three points – a message that Grant Scott also pushed in his reflection to the squad. “It was a bit of a scrappy game overall. It probably wasn’t the best game when we look back at it. “But these are the games that you just need to win and get the three points. “At the end of the day, we were able to do that. So, overall we are happy to come away with the victory. “We had loads of chances throughout the game. The game probably could have went a different way, in terms of, it could have been a bigger scoreline. ‘But we got there in the end and got that goal.’ “That is what Grant has been saying. We are ticking off each win, one by one. We want to keep doing that. “Today, we are walking away with three points and that is the most important thing.”Pulling on the Celtic shirt is not only a special moment for McAneny, but also a dream come true. Having supported the club her entire life, the youngster was delighted to have hit such a landmark in green and white. To do it at such an early stage of her career too is an impressive feat, and an achievement which McAneny was delighted to reach. The midfielder insisted it was a surreal feeling, and hopes there is still many more to come in the Hoops. “It’s an amazing feeling. I never thought I would be in this position. I’m just so happy to achieve that. “It’s definitely a milestone that feels very surreal and hopefully I can just keep adding to them.” ‘I’m just happy I was able to give back to the team again today. That is what I want to keep doing.’ “Hopefully, we can build on this and just keep moving forward like we have been doing.”FixturesCeltic Women Vs. Montrose Women – Sun, Jan 25th 2026, 13:10
