With the month of March drawing to a close, it has been a positive ending for Maria McAneny, who has received a call-up for the Scotland Under-23 squad. Ahead of the upcoming international break, the midfielder has been rewarded for her fine form, which also saw her recently pick up the Player of the Month award for February. However, before her focus turns to international duty, McAneny will be aiming to make sure the month definitely rounds off on a high, with the Ghirls set to take on Glasgow City tonight (Friday). Speaking to the media ahead of the game at New Douglas Park, the 20-year-old explained that breaks between games can be a positive thing for the squad, who have been working hard in training at Barrowfield over the course of the past week. She said: “When you’ve got games all the time, you maybe don’t have as much time, it’s just about focusing on tactical and the next team you are playing. “So we’ve had more time to focus on us and what we do in our principles. But I don’t think it changes the competitiveness in training either. ‘I’m sure Elena has probably said before how competitive it is, with everyone fighting for their place in the team every single day.’ “So in terms of that, it doesn’t change. Having a longer break at times can be nice, but at the same time, you just want the next game to come as well.”Tonight’s match will also mark a first home game for the Hoops since early January as they welcome Glasgow City to New Douglas Park. Being back out in front of the home fans is something that McAneny believes will help the group as they get set for another huge match. The midfielder also sees it as a good opportunity to bounce back from what will have been a frustrating few weeks for the Hoops, having lost out last time against Hearts in their first post-split fixture. “We’ve not played at home for a while,” she said. “So in terms of looking to bounce back, it’s always important to have that support behind you. ‘It doesn’t really matter where we go, they are always there.’ “But to play at your home ground, it’s just that wee bit extra excitement. “I think it’s important just to focus on the next game. We can’t dwell on what’s happened, it’s done. We need to move on. “We’ve got a great opportunity to do that tonight and we all want to go and put it right.”FixturesCeltic Women Vs.
